Some secrets are better left bottled

Dead Rum Society at The Rum House
Founders at DRS circa 1933

Good Rum. Bad Decisions. Eternal Membership.

Friday, Oct 23 · Saturday, Oct 24 · Friday, Oct 30 · Saturday, Oct 31
5–10 PM · Reservations required

The Society is meeting again.

In 1933, rum runners, bartenders, smugglers and sailors from across the Caribbean formed a private club in New Orleans. Their only requirements were a taste for rum, a good story, and an understanding that certain things said over a bottle never leave the table.

One by one, the members disappeared, and the Society was presumed dissolved. It wasn't.

For four nights this October, The Dead Rum Society reconvenes at The Rum House. The restaurant becomes their clubhouse, with candlelight, aged brass, old ledgers and the portraits of the founding members who never came back. Every guest who walks through the door is admitted as a member for the night.

Membership is open to the living.

WHAT AWAITS YOU

  • Your membership. Each guest receives a Temporary Membership Card, stamped at the door. It expires at midnight.
  • The Society Ledger. Sign your name in the Society's book and tell us how you'd like to be remembered. The ledger returns every October.
  • The Founding Members. Meet the Society's founders on our portrait wall and read how each one disappeared.
  • The music. Old Caribbean and New Orleans jazz & calypso as the evening begins, giving way to darker rhythms as the night goes

THE SOCIETY TABLE

Alongside our full Rum House menu, the Society serves a selection you can only order these four nights:

SOCIETY COCKTAILS

  • The Initiation: the Society's welcome drink, with white rum, passion fruit, lime, honey and allspice
  • Dead Man's Daiquiri: a darker daiquiri with False River Dark Rum, fresh lime and demerara
  • The Last Known Location: aged and overproof rums, passion fruit and falernum, crowned with a flaming lime boat
  • Black Barrel: a rum old fashioned built on False River Barrel Aged Rum
  • Cause of Death Unknown: a crimson cooler of rum, hibiscus, pomegranate and ginger beer
  • The Society Bowl: a shareable rum punch for four, because a member never drinks alone

The Last Flight: three bottles recovered from the Society cellar.

THE SOCIETY SPECIALS

  • The Society Feast: Warm Boursin and grilled vegetable skillet with Elephant Ear Garlic and grilled Cuban crostini
  • Back From The Dead Taco Trifecta: Oil Spilled Blackened Redfish, Trinidad Curried Chicken and Chipotle Octopus Tacos
  • The Last Supper: Pan-Seared Gulf grouper with avocado and jumbo lump crabmeat butter
  • Death By Chocolate: a dark rum chocolate trifle, layered in a jar and made for sharing

DRESS THE PART

1930s attire is encouraged: tropical formalwear, vintage cocktail dress, rum runners, sailors, and the recently departed. Costumes are welcome but never required.

Saturday, October 31 is The Final Meeting, our last night of the season, with a costume contest.
