Our Story
I believe what started it all was the feeling that overcame me listening to Bob Marley with some friends while on vacation. It was a feeling that everything was right in the world and my troubles seemed to melt away. On the beach with my friends, boat drink in hand, wind at my back, vast ocean in front of me, and right then at that moment in time I didn't have a care in the world. Life was good.
I wanted that feeling to last forever, but, as we all know, those are the moments that make the rest of life worth it. That's what makes those times so special. That fleeting moment did, however, spark an idea that would eventually lead to what the Rum House is today. An escape from the day-to-day hustle of city life, the grind of school or work, and even the stress that comes with raising a family. A place where you can break bread, sip drinks, and make memories with your friends and family.
Along the way I have partnered with two people, Kelly and Terri, who share my passion for making this dream a reality. After reading my hair-brained business plan, Kelly uttered three simple words: "Let's do this!" After finding the vacant corner building on Magazine Street in New Orleans, our flagship restaurant opened in 2009. In 2010, we joined forces with Chef Terri, a graduate of Johnson & Wales culinary school and trained chef who took the menu I daydreamed up in college and developed it into what it is now. The rest, as they say, is history.
